For meeting planners and buyers

What those three letters tell you before you sign the contract

Choosing a speaker is a risk. The CSP takes a lot of that risk off your desk, because the vetting has already been done by clients, by peers, and by the National Speakers Association.

A proven track record

CSPs document years of paid, professional engagements and the business results that come with them. This is not someone testing material on your audience.

Rated by people like you

At least 20 clients with hiring authority independently evaluated each CSP's work, from audience engagement to whether they would recommend them again.

Judged on a real stage

Current CSPs reviewed each candidate's video of a live presentation with a genuine audience. Keynoters are judged by keynoters, trainers by trainers.

Held to a code of ethics

Every CSP signs the CSP Oath. Original content, honest business practices and professional conduct are conditions of the designation.

Since 1980

About the CSP designation

The National Speakers Association established the Certified Speaking Professional designation in 1980 to give clients a reliable way to identify experienced, ethical, client-focused speakers.

The NSA Board of Directors confers it only on speakers who clear every stage of a demanding review.

How a Speaker Earns It

  1. Business track record. The speaker documents a substantial volume of paid presentations and sustained speaking income. The standard path is 250 paid presentations over up to 10 years, with additional paths for high-income and organizational speakers. Clients are spot-checked to verify the data.
  2. Client evaluations. A minimum of 20 clients complete a standardized evaluation, and the scores must meet a set standard.
  3. Peer video review. At least three current CSPs independently score a live presentation for expertise, eloquence and ethics. This is the hardest stage to pass.
  4. Board approval. The CSP Committee votes and the NSA Board of Directors approves the final decision.

Applicants also complete required education, including in-person attendance at a national NSA or Global Speakers Federation event.

Why the CSP Matters

No license is required to speak for a living. That keeps the profession open to anyone with something to say. It also makes it hard for a meeting professional to tell experience from marketing. The CSP gives both sides a clear, earned benchmark.

How It Is Maintained

The CSP is not a one-time award. Designees renew every three years and must complete 15 approved education credits in each renewal period, so the speaker you hire is staying current with the profession.

Why NSA Recognizes It

Earning the CSP takes years of paid engagements, a sustainable business, and the platform skill to back it up. NSA recognizes that work publicly so planners have a clear signal and every speaker has a standard to grow toward. More CSPs raise the bar for the whole profession.
