CSP® History

The Certified Speaking Professional™ (CSP®) designation, established by the National Speakers Association (NSA) in 1980, is the speaking profession’s highest-earned designation. It recognizes professional speakers who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence, a proven track record of delivering exceptional value to clients, and a dedication to ongoing professional development.

To earn the CSP, speakers must meet rigorous criteria, including a specific number of paid speaking engagements, a minimum income threshold from speaking, and client evaluations that confirm their professionalism and expertise. This designation represents the pinnacle of credibility and achievement within the speaking industry.

Today, fewer than 17% of NSA members worldwide hold the CSP designation, making it a prestigious mark of distinction and a testament to a speaker’s skill, professionalism, and dedication to their craft.
