NEW NSA
Membership Model
June 6, 2023 Update
NSA Chair Mike Staver, CSP, CPAE, and NSA CEO/President Jaime Nolan are bringing members a special announcement concerning upcoming changes to the NSA membership model and what that looks like for the future of our association. Transcript
Beginning on August 1, 2023, NSA will transition to a single-membership model, simply be called “Member” and confusion over the various levels will be eliminated. Here's what the new single membership model means for you:
- Enhanced Value: The single membership model will provide all members with access to the highest level of benefits and resources offered by NSA.
- Unified Community: Transitioning to a single membership option will foster a greater sense of unity and cohesion within our community, enabling all members to connect and engage on an equal footing.
- Expanded Resources: With a single membership option, resources will be allocated more effectively, ensuring that all members have access to an expanded range of valuable resources.
- Streamlined Experience: Consolidating our membership structure will create a more streamlined and cohesive experience for all members, eliminating confusion and potential disparities between different membership levels.
- Simplified Administration: Having a single membership option will simplify administrative processes, allowing us to deliver exceptional service to our members and focus on continuously improving the quality and relevance of the benefits we provide.
What Happens on August 1?
Starting August 1, both Essential Members and Advanced Members will be merged into one group, simply titled "Members," and will receive the benefits of Advanced Membership, which includes the NSA Digital Vault and additional programming available to members beginning later this year. Legacy and International Memberships will still be available for members who meet the criteria, which you can read about in the FAQ section of this web page.
All Essential Members will have their membership enhanced on August 1 to receive the same benefits that Advanced Members currently receive. The cost of member dues will be $950 at your next renewal date. You will not need to change anything on August 1 and your membership will continue uninterrupted with the new benefits available to you. You do need to take any action for this, unless you do not wish to renew your NSA membership.

Dues after August 1 will cost $950, which is the current cost of the Advanced Membership. All members will be "Members," not Essential Members or Advanced Members, and everyone will receive the benefits available to current Advanced Members, plus additional programs and opportunities that will be available later this year.

The simple answer is "you will not be impacted," at least not on August 1. You are already paying the dues that essential members will pay at their next renewal, and you already have access to the NSA Digital Vault and all of the benefits.
However, the NSA team has had to split their time between determining what programs, benefits, communications, etc., that Essential and Advanced members each received. As we streamline our business to use one membership level, the team will have more time and capacity to bring an exceptional, unified, and amazing membership experience as all decisions will impact the entirety of membership, not just select groups.
Legacy and International memberships will still be available to members who meet the criteria and will pay 50 percent of member dues, or $475 after they submit supporting documentation to qualify for either membership. At your next renewal after August 1, you will be charged the new rate unless you inform us prior that you do not wish to renew.
In order to qualify for Legacy Membership, a member must be 70+ years of age and have held membership for 10+ years prior to application.
In order to qualify for International Membership, a member must be located outside the US and be a member of another GSF association.
In short, no, unless you do not wish to continue your membership. Starting August 1, the Essential and Advance membership types will just become one singular membership.
If you’re an Essential Member, you will gain access to all of the new benefits, such as the NSA Digital Vault and the new programs coming out later this year.
If you are an Advanced member, there is no change on your part other than receiving new membership features that will be rolling out in the coming months.
At your next renewal, you will automatically be charged $950. If you do not wish to continue your NSA membership, contact us at NSA HQ before your renewal date and we will mark your account to not renew.
You will not need to submit any qualifying documents to join NSA. Until several years ago, NSA had different membership levels that essentially received the same benefits, but required some speakers to submit qualifying information to join. The different levels lead to confusion for members and complicated administrative work for the staff. While we are returning a single-membership structure, qualifications to join will not be returning. We welcome all speakers, no matter where they are in their journey, who are dedicated to building a better business and becoming a better speaker.
No, your membership dues need to be paid in full by your renewal date. There will not be any payment options besides one annual payment.
If you renew your Essential Membership before August 1, you will gain access to all of the new benefits, such as the NSA Digital Vault and the new programs coming out later this year as all other members. At your next renewal, you will see the new dues rate of $950, unless you tell us not to renew your membership.
Everyone who is currently an Essential member will immediately gain access to the NSA Digital Vault, which will be completely revamped and relaunched prior to August 1 with easier navigation, streamlined content, interactive transcripts and more. We have brand new courses and content scheduled to be released starting August 1.
Additionally, active members will have access to new networking and educational resources, such as as our brand new Open Mic, which We piloted in May will be hosting again later in June, a brand-new sales round table discussion and other opportunities headed your way this fall.
In 2022, we removed the requirement to be an active member of NSA to hold the CSP designation. You may continue to use and market your CSP designation without being an NSA member. You still need to meet the renewal requirements every five years, which does include attending NSA events, which you will pay the non-member rate to attend.
Our Zoom subscription is only available to members of NSA. If you choose not to renew your NSA Membership, your Zoom subscription will also not renew. Most Zoom memberships align with the day your membership renews. For the small group of Zoom subscribers whose Zoom term extends past their membership date, you may continue to use it until the end of the current term but it will not be eligible for renewal. If you will not be renewing your Zoom, you can unlink your Zoom account from NSA at any time by following these instructions and purchasing your own license directly from Zoom. If you are no longer in need of your Zoom subscription, be sure to download any cloud content from your Zoom account prior to unlinking.
Yes. If you chose not to renew your NSA membership we will remove your NSA benefits 30 days after your renewal date, which will include removing you from the NSA Members Only Facebook groups, Constant Contact benefit, or all of the other pricing discounts. If you set up your eSpeakers profile, it will be removed from the NSA directory, but all of the content you placed on your profile will still be accessible to you.
Yes, you can! We changed our chapter policy within the past year so that NSA national membership is not required to join your local chapter, unless you’d like to serve in a leadership role for your chapter, such as president, treasurer, etc.
No, you must remain an NSA member to be eligible to win the conference registration, even if you referred the most members that year.
