SUMMARY:NSA Austin: Last Story Standing (In-person)
DESCRIPTION:Last Story Standing \nhttps://nsa-austin.com/events/february-24-2026/ \nDo you have a story you tell in your keynote or presentation that brings your audience along with you on a journey? Does your story evoke emotions and provoke thought? Can you tell it in under five minutes? \nThe NSA Last Story Standing Competition is the local competition where the winner competes at Regionals and has a chance to tell their story at Influence on the BIGGEST stage! \nThis year’s competition will take place on Tuesday\, February 24 from 6:30-830pm at Batch\, a great space that has hosted numerous Austin-area storytelling events over the years. \nRegistration for the competition will be open from January 9 to January 19. We will cap the number of participants at 10 (and it is required that participants be members of NSA Austin chapter)\, and the cost for each participant will be $45. \nA Last Story Standing Chapter winner will be announced at the end of the event. The winner will then tell their story at the beginning of the Friday\, March 6 NSA Austin Chapter meeting (which starts at 4pm). There\, they will have their story professionally recorded so that it can be submitted to NSA National for the Regional Competition. \nThink this might be for you?!\nHere are the Last Story Standing details as found on NSA National’s website. And here are the competition Rules\, Regulations\, and FAQs. Start working on your story! \nIf you do not plan to submit a story – you can still be involved and support your fellow storytellers by joining in as an audience member! There is no charge to attend the event\, though you are welcome to purchase food and drinks at Batch. \nIf you have any questions about the competition\, contact NSA Austin Board Member Dori Eversmann. \nhttps://nsa-austin.com/events/february-24-2026/

DESCRIPTION:Getting Real About the Speaking Business\nDifferent paths. Same truth. The stage alone isn’t the business.\nhttps://nsasocal.org/events/february-14-2026/ \nThere are many legitimate ways to build a speaking business. And yet\, so many speakers quietly believe there’s only one “right” path…the one that looks loudest\, fastest\, or most impressive from the outside. \nThis conversation is an invitation to step out of comparison and into clarity. \nIn this session\, you’ll hear from speakers and leaders who have built their businesses in very different ways: through keynotes\, facilitation\, coaching\, academia\, niche expertise\, systems\, visibility\, and long-term partnerships. Some built their work on big stages. Others built it inside organizations\, classrooms\, or communities. All of them found models that actually work for their values\, their energy\, and their lives. \nTogether\, we’ll explore what it really takes to build a speaking business you can sustain\, scale\, and embody without abandoning yourself in the process. \nThis is not a panel about hacks\, hype\, or chasing the next stage. It’s a real conversation about: \n\nHow people actually make money\nWhere speaking fits inside a larger ecosystem\nWhat trade-offs are worth it (and which ones aren’t)\nHow to build something that lasts longer than a season.\n\nIf you’ve ever wondered whether there’s a way to grow your speaking work that feels aligned\, grounded\, and genuinely yours…this conversation is for you. \nCome curious. Leave clearer.\nMeet our Panel:\nGregg WardThe Facilitator / Trainer Revenue Engine\nGregg Ward is an award-winning\, bestselling author\, speaker\, and executive coach who inadvertently discovered that his training and experience as a theater professional in New York and London was surprisingly helpful in developing leadership and communication training programs for industry and government. Although he’s a gifted speaker and storyteller with many unpaid and a few paid virtual and in-person gigs\, facilitating interactive training is where he makes most of his revenue. While living in the UK doing theater\, he also served as a journalist for BBC radio and various newspapers. These days\, he’s based in San Diego\, plays tennis as much as his body allows\, and occasionally umpires Little League baseball. \nNick DemosThe Coach/ Keynoter Revenue Engine\nTony Award Winning Broadway Producer\, Award winning filmmaker\, and Story Coach Nick Demos connects with audiences by authentically and vulnerably sharing compelling stories. From challenging moments to phenomenal successes he offers teachings with truth and a keen sense of humor. He speaks for entrepreneurs\, corporations and— despite being a highly sought after creative artist- has even been a speaker for financial advisors! \nHis work is in helping people tap into their innate creativity and share their stories so they can connect with their clients\, customers\, teammates and audiences. \n \nMary PoffenrothMainstage TED/TEDx Speaker\, Professor\, Cognitive + Behavioral Scientist\nDr. Mary Poffenroth is a scientist\, professor\, and fear expert who has spent her career researching how we can all live more courageously\, every day.
